Steel Minister Meets Queensland Ministers to Strengthen Raw Material Supply to India

The Union Minister of Steel, Shri Beni Prasad Verma, today met the Minister of Natural Resources & Mines, Government of Queensland, Mr. Andrew Cripps and Deputy Premier, Government of Queensland, Mr. Jeff Seeney, at Brisbane in Australia. 

Shri Verma is currently on a visit to Australia and New Zealand to forge partnerships with the countries in areas of mining and coal trade.

Queensland is a mineral rich state in Australia and is a major supplier of coking coal to the Indian Steel Industry. 

During his meeting with Mr. Andrew Cripps, Shri Verma expressed his belief that India and Government of Queensland, Australia can jointly explore possibilities of investment in development of coal assets. 

He further added that Indian steel and mining companies could collaborate with Australian counterparts for developing technologies to carry out sustainable mining. 

Interacting with Mr. Jeff Seeney, Shri Verma said that possibilities of a long term agreement for export of coking coal could be explored between the respective governments. 

He further talked about various other measures for strengthening bilateral ties in the field of mining and enhancement of supply of coal to India in the coming years.

The Indian delegation led by Hon’ble Minister of Steel, Shri Beni Prasad Verma, comprises Chairman, SAIL, NMDC and ICVL, Shri C.S. Verma, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Steel, Shri S. Abbasi, CMD, MOIL Ltd., Shri G.P. Kundergi and CEO, ICVL, Shri Ajay Mathur.
